About Muna

Cacao came to us. We didn't set out to become chocolate makers.

It started when Joy found herself at a pristine, generational cacao farm tucked into the jungle of Chiapas, a place so remote that until two years ago, their beans traveled by boat down the river to reach the outside world. The farm practices regenerative agroforestry, meaning the cacao grows as part of the living jungle, tended with a reverence that comes from generations of relationship with the land. Joy fell in love with what they were doing, and wanted to bring the cacao back home.

So we set out to learn how to make chocolate worthy of these beans. That search led us to Tyler, a skilled chocolate maker with rare knowledge of roasting profiles and terroir, the quality of place that lives inside every truly exceptional chocolate. What we found in Tyler was more than we were looking for. He became our mentor, and believes that the knowledge of chocolate making should be freely shared.

Put the most beautiful beans we've ever encountered together with that kind of generosity, and Muna was inevitable.

For each new origin, we have a commitment to work with beans that meet an extraordinary standard. The farms we work with are not interchangeable suppliers, each origin has its own story as collection of small family farms. We work only with heirloom beans grown in lush agroforestry ecosystems.

We believe that what we eat, how it's grown, and who grows it matters more than we've been told. Muna is our contribution to what Charles Eisenstein calls "the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible", a world that moves toward togetherness, toward wellbeing, toward real nourishment. This cacao is potent, heart-opening medicine, and we are genuinely thrilled to bring it to your cup.
